By the late 1800s, Moskito Island was abandoned and used only to graze livestock until Drake’s Anchorage resort was built by Mr. Bert Kilbride in the 1960s, which ultimately closed in 2001. In 2007, the island was bought by Richard Branson. Now the island comprises the Branson family estate and four private vacation villas which are among the small number of exclusive private estates on the island.
