The spectacular 13-bedroom and 9.5-bathroom home on Clapboard Island, built by a Philadelphia railroad owner more than 120 years ago, features all new interior furnishings with a lighter and brighter coastal décor. All new interior furnishings and décor completed 2020. Other star features of the renovation include a modernized kitchen and butler pantry with high-end appliances, updated baths, and new mahogany decks with teak seating providing elevated views of the surrounding waters. Clapboard Island’s location couldn’t be more ideal, set in Maine’s beautiful Casco Bay, well known for its superb sailing, boating and fresh local seafood. A stone pier welcomes the largest boats in the anchorage, and a helipad allows access from the air. Only 1 mile from Falmouth Foreside & minutes to Portland by boat, Clapboard Island is available for rental from June through September.

No hopper flights needed. Less than a 10-minute boat ride to/from the mainland. Arrival during daylight hours is requested. Portland International Jetport (PWM) is the largest airport in Maine. Our convenient and accessible location permits for readily accessible deliveries of various items, including Whole Foods market, to the nearby dock. A wonderful location for families from New York City, only 278 miles and less than 5 hours’ drive. We are also accessible via helicopter and a large deep-water pier, dock and mooring system. Surround yourself with hardwoods, towering pines, abundant bird life, a quartet of gravel beaches, and pleasant views of Casco Bay.

Some of the most beautiful and diverse scenery on the Maine coast is here in Casco Bay. From the rugged rocky cliffs and bays of the many islands to the gently wooded shorelines of the mainland, the views will charm and captivate you. There are more than 136 islands, providing no shortage of sights to see and places to explore. Boat excursions are vast and varied. From cruising Casco Bay, touring lighthouses, touring an Oyster Farm, or taking a sunset cruise with wine and cheese. Enjoy a sail, motorboat, yacht or historic schooner. Temperatures in Casco Bay can be in the 80’s and even 90’s in July and August; average temperatures range from the low 60s to low 70s, perfect weather for walking, biking, kayaking, and plenty of other outdoor activities.

Casco Bay is an inlet of the Gulf of Maine on the southern coast of Maine, New England, United States. Its easternmost approach is Cape Small and its westernmost approach is Two Lights in Cape Elizabeth. The city of Portland sits along its southern edge and the Port of Portland lies within. Historically, workers would make small-boat excursions to Clapboard Island to cut timber and saw it into lumber which would then be used for “clapboards”. Clapboards are long, thin, flat pieces of wood with edges horizontally overlapping in series, used to cover the outer walls of buildings. At low tide, Little Clapboard Island, part of the main property, is reachable via a sandbar for picnicking and swimming. Kayaking and bird watching are most enjoyable as Ospreys, eagles, and shorebirds are plentiful.
