Elisa’s Cottage, Eleuthera, Bahamas Vacation Rental
This beautifully restored and appointed 19th century cottage is perched high on a hillside with spectacular views of the caribbean from every room. During the recent restoration, the original historic architecture was lovingly preserved while accommodating the needs of modern luxury living, including state-of-the-art fixtures and electronics.
Elisa’s cottage consists of an ocean-view master bedroom with queen bed and luxurious en-suite bath. The living/dining area, furnished with contemporary design pieces, also offer ocean views. The modern kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel bosch appliances and a counter seating four people. The outdoor decks and patio offer a table with seating for four, chaise lounges and more spectacular caribbean views, facing west to capture the sunset over the ocean. Elisa’s shares an ocean view pool (steps from the cottage) with one other house.
Amenities at elisa’s cottage include flat screen tv, air conditioning, ceiling fan, wireless internet and cordless telephone.
Elisa’s cottage is part of the squires estate collection of beautifully restored 19th century homes on the hill above governors harbour, furnished with antiques from around the world. The décor and level of finish will delight the most discriminating world traveller. Our manager will greet you upon arrival and be available to assist you as needed. She can arrange for daily housekeeping, a private chef, or a car rental (extra charges apply), and provide advice about island activities. Other staff at squires estate include a full-time gardener and housekeepers. Laundry and ironing services are provided on the premises at no charge. Elisa’s cottage can be combined with other historic homes and cottages in the squires estate collection for larger groups.
The town of governors harbour, a three-minute walk down the hill, has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbour. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from fisherman at the town dock, or visit the recently restored haynes library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreign residents and tourists. Governors harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with atms, a bakery, gift shops, and a medical clinic. Friday night fish fry in governors harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.
Walking over the hill in the other direction takes you to French leave beach, the finest beach on the island and one of the great beaches of the Caribbean. By foot, it’s about 10 minutes to french leave, a mile-long crescent of pink sand which is literally deserted most of the time. Most visitors to eleuthera rent a car, because the island is rural and spread out, and a car is the only practical way to get around. By car, elisa’s cottage is just a minute from French leave beach.
