This elegant cottage dates to the mid 1800s, and over time has been lovingly restored. Toad Hall is surrounded by a lush garden which is home to many fruit trees, bougainvillea, hibiscus, aloe and coconut palms. Toad Hall features a spacious living room with elegant contemporary and antique furnishings, including a grand piano. The dining area has seating for four at an antique mahogany table. There is also a powder room on this level.

The fully equipped kitchen features all necessary appliances, including a built-in gas cook-top, electric oven, refrigerator, freezer, microwave, and dishwasher. Upstairs, Toad Hall has a spacious king bedroom suite with cathedral ceilings and hardwood floors, and a newly remodelled en-suite bathroom. A small deck, off the master bedroom, offers extensive ocean and sunset views.

Toad Hall is part of the squires estate collection of beautifully restored 19th century homes on the hill above governors harbour, furnished with antiques from around the world. The décor and level of finish will delight the most discriminating world traveller. Our manager will greet you upon arrival and be available to assist you as needed. She can arrange for daily housekeeping, a private chef, or a car rental (extra charges apply), and provide advice about island activities. Other staff at squires estate include a full-time gardener and housekeepers. Laundry and ironing services are provided on the premises at no charge. Toad Hall can be combined with other historic homes and cottages in the squires estate collection for larger groups.

The town of governors harbour, a three-minute walk down the hill, has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbour. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from fisherman at the town dock, or visit the recently restored haynes library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreign residents and tourists. Governors harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with atms, a bakery, gift shops, and a medical clinic. Friday night fish fry in governors harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.

Walking over the hill in the other direction takes you to French leave beach, the finest beach on the island and one of the great beaches of the Caribbean. By foot, it’s about 10 minutes to french leave, a mile-long crescent of pink sand which is literally deserted most of the time. Most visitors to eleuthera rent a car, because the island is rural and spread out, and a car is the only practical way to get around. By car, Toad Hall is just a minute from French leave beach.
