Le Château de Missery, Burgundy, France Vacation Rental
A classic French château with medieval towers, surrounded by large moats, a park with woods, an organic kitchen garden, and an 18th century bathing pool at its center! The Château de Missery (pronounced "Miss-ree") is an authentic 18th century moated Louis XV château located on the edge of the Morvan park on north-eastern part of Burgundy, approximately two and a half hours’ drive from Paris. Virtually untouched by the world wars that ravaged much of Europe's great cities, Burgundy retains its medieval charms, yet it's fitted for modern life. In America, we refer to the region as Burgundy. Keep in mind that in France, it's Bourgogne.
Upon arrival, you will be warmly greeted by your Château Hosts with a hot cup of tea, or a Kir Ducal: Burgundy will be your duchy for the week! You will be well looked after by two Château Hosts who will show you to your rooms and around the property on arrival. They will be on hand during your stay to assist with basic concierge needs, such as booking tables, taxis, translations, directions, etc. Deeply committed and passionate, our teams leave nothing to chance. They make every moment of your holidays flexible and incomparably simple.
The Château is available for exclusive use, during the months of May through October annually and can accommodate 14-16 guests. For events and larger parties, there are fantastic B&B's or 'chambres d'hôtes' nearby. There are nine bedrooms, each agreeably spacious and wonderfully unique with high ceilings, some with exposed beams, all with beautiful views looking out onto the grounds of the château and beyond. Generous wardrobe space, comfy down filled pillows, latest reads, magazine monthlies, and château postcards are just some of the comforts provided, to help you feel truly at home. Each of the six bathrooms comes equipped with essential toiletries, to lighten your packing load, as well as a hairdryer and soft, fluffy towels. All the bedrooms are designed to the same level of comfort, and each has their own character and story.
Start each day of your stay with a full continental breakfast daily. Typically this includes a spread of hams, cheeses, boiled eggs, fruit, cereal, yoghurt, fresh croissants & breads and a choice of jam, honey and other spreads, accompanied by tea, coffee and orange juice. Basic housekeeping is provided daily and includes freshening up bedrooms and bathrooms and turning down the beds in the evenings. Featuring an interior full of authentic, unspoiled period decoration, the Château de Missery is a perfect place to surround yourself in an elegant Burgundian setting. There’s a generous dining room hung with portraits; a sitting room which opens onto a wide terrace overlooking the moat; kitchen; a breakfast room; a magnificent hallway with stone flagged floor and sundry other offices on the ground floor plus a collection of high-ceilinged and light-filled bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs.
Chef packages/meal plans available with either full or half board with an enhanced bespoke breakfast as well as healthy nibbles and indulgent home-made patisseries, waters, soft drinks and some house wines. For your menus, you can choose from traditional, rustic French to highly gastronomical Burgundian, from uber-healthy gluten free, to pasta-rich Italian or far away Thai. Or simply mix and match your cuisines to your and your guests’ desires. Daily harvests from our very own kitchen garden will be delivered to the kitchen table, whilst nearly all other products will be sourced from the best local producers: additional fruit and vegetables in season, the butter and crème fraîche from a nearby farm, chicken from Bresse, Charolais beef from the Burgundy-Franche Comté region; the honey, duck and goat’s cheeses from producers in the next-door hamlets, their craft handed down from generation to generation.
The Burgundy region specializes in chardonnay and pinot noir wines, and vineyards and wine bars are staples here. Set in the quiet hilly countryside, some 40 miles west of Dijon (about three quarters of an hour’s drive from Dijon), the Château is ideal for house parties, family holidays, weddings, celebrations, and as a base for discovering this beautiful and unspoiled region, renowned for its gastronomy, wines and history. Come explore the rich cultural heritage of Burgundy, whether it be a day of heady wine tasting on the Côte de Beaune, cycling off into the idyllic Burgundian countryside laying right before you, or messing about in boats on the beautiful lakes of the Morvan National Park. The Hawkes family have been proud custodians of this château for 40 years and have and gathered extensive knowledge about the region. They would be delighted to help you create a perfectly tailored itinerary for your holiday, whether to see the most beautiful châteaux, abbeys or towns; to meet and try the wares of local producers and ‘vignerons’; to cycle around this picturesque countryside; or, to find the best picnic spots! Then, return to the château, for a delicious ‘apéritif’, of gougères and Kir Ducal after a fun day out, at the magical sunset hour, overlooking the Serein Valley.
