Villa Palmilla, Palmilla, Los Cabos, Mexico Vacation Rental
Carved into the dramatic Palmilla coast, in the gated resort community of Villas Del Mar, our five-bedroom Palmilla is suspended above the Sea of Cortez—and is so immersed in a remarkable sea view that, while standing on the courtyard terrace, it feels as though you’re on the prow of a grand ship in the middle of the ocean. Watch the sun sink into the depths of the sea and a huge moon rise to replace it, all while humpback whales breach against the horizon and waves tumble against the rocky shoreline and miles of white sand beach.
The Palmilla and guesthouse are situated within Villas Del Mar, a private community in Los Cabos. What’s more, guests of the Casita also enjoy access to the amenities of the adjacent, award-winning One&Only Palmilla—including its restaurants, spa, and 27-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course. Exceptional resort service combined with the luxury and privacy of an independent casita make for a one-of-a-kind travel experience.
The Casita’s architecture, designed and constructed by , melds the Casita and its guesthouse with the beauty of their surroundings. Three different levels, boasting five oceanfront bedroom suites, are connected by a spiraling outdoor staircase crafted from stone and accented with ivy plants and clay pots brimming with flowers. At night—perhaps while submerged in the hot spa or infinity pool—you’ll witness a breathtaking play of light provided by the lit outdoor stairway, the chandeliers suspended above the terrace, the flickering fire bowls and candles, and the moon casting its reflection on the water.
The main living area’s floor-to-ceiling glass doors recede into the walls for a seamless merging of indoor and outdoor spaces, and high ceilings accented with wood beams open the space even more. Inside, -styled interior design takes inspiration from Los Cabos and Old-World Spain, with original art, antiques and artifacts, plus artisan touches like handmade dishware, hand-painted tiles and a hand-carved wine cave, stocked for your enjoyment.
When set out to create a bespoke Los Cabos dwelling, as always, we sought a crown jewel location. We wanted views that would take our guests’ breath away every morning when they awoke—even on the last morning of their stay. The site we chose for our new construction boasted a rare, prized location on the point, offering uncommon privacy and surreal sea views stretching for miles.
The villa was built, -style, with the highest quality materials – hand-painted Spanish tiles, antique plaster-finished walls, custom woodwork, a hand-carved fireplace mantel – and selected custom furniture, original art, and antique collectibles from Mexico and Europe to create an Old-World, Spanish aesthetic.
During construction, the team modified the Casita’s design to include a separate guesthouse complete with a living room and full kitchen, plus a courtyard terrace made magical by a spiral staircase, fountain and fire bowl. We love the final result, and we think you will, too.
The Seaside Master Suite: A four-poster king-sized bed anchors the stunning Seaside Master Suite, as do the unbound views of the sea stretching out ahead. Custom bedding, a double pillow-top mattress and down/feather pillows make our signature beds “the most comfortable in the world,” as our well-rested guests tell us. In this room, you’ll also find a collection of antique, hand-carved furniture, including an armoire with an HDTV, and an expansive en-suite bathroom with Spanish tile, walk-in closet, two-person Jacuzzi tub, double vanity, and both indoor and outdoor walk-in showers. A sliding glass door leads to the terrace.
The Beach House Suite: A detached guesthouse accompanies the Casita and provides privacy and inspiration to our guests—in fact, Stevie Nicks has written music while staying in this very space. The guesthouse’s King Master boasts Sea of Cortez views, a king-sized bed, an en-suite bath with a copper bathtub and indoor and outdoor showers, and a Juliet balcony suspended above the sea, accessed through a set of French doors. In the guesthouse with a beach house motif you will also find a great room, a gourmet kitchen with a breakfast nook, and an expansive terrace with loungers and private fire bowl. Find your inspiration here.
The Seashell Master Suite: In this upper level room, the curves of seashells that accent the draping on the king-sized, four-poster signature bed mimic the soft lines carved into the handcrafted furniture, including a textured armoire with an HDTV hidden inside. This Spanish-style design is carried throughout the room, and the outside is brought in with grand Sea of Cortez views and a terrace area with loungers and a bistro table. The en-suite bathroom indulges with a large walk-in shower.
The Sunburst Double Queen Suite: Two queen-sized signature beds with iron canopies are the focal point in this buttery yellow and pale blue room, which is accented with custom fabrics and fun details to create a subtle bohemian edge. From the plush sitting area, enjoy beautiful Sea of Cortez views, or get closer to the view through the sliding doors which open to the outdoor terrace with chaise lounges, bistro table and beautiful planters bursting with flowers. An en-suite bathroom with a large walk-in shower and an antique armoire with HDTV make for a tranquil Los Cabos paradise.
Den/Media Room: A laidback hangout, the den and media room boast a large screen HDTV for an evening in, or a rare rainy day in Los Cabos (the locale gets, on average, 340 days of sun a year), plus a private office area with computer and printer. This room, which is on the first floor of the main villa, also serves as an optional fifth bedroom, with two twin pullout beds or a king-sized bed if preferred. The en-suite bathroom features a large walk-in shower with beautiful Spanish tiles.
Fully Equipped Chef-Style Kitchen: This kitchen is both sleek and traditional, outfitted with commercial-grade appliances, including a glass-front stainless steel fridge, plus an intricate Spanish tile backsplash, royal blue small appliances, and an eat-in island so the chef can work his or her culinary magic in the company of friends. Here, the cupboards are stocked, and so is the built-in wine cave. Everything you need is close at hand.
Dining Areas: Have an incredible meal at the interior dining table, which seats eight and overlooks the Sea of Cortez. The adjacent wine cave, custom designed by and made by craftsman with hand-carved wood, is stocked with wine to suit every palate, and a fully stocked bar can help you mix a pitch-perfect margarita, too. In fact, when you arrive at the Casita, from-scratch margaritas will be waiting for your group—along with a selection of chef-created hors d’ouvres. The floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors recede into the walls to open to the fresh sea breeze. Or, get even closer to the sea views at the outdoor dining area, with a chandelier adding its glow to the meal along with the nearby fireplace and fire bowl feature.
Living Area: The living area’s focal point is a hand-carved fireplace custom designed by , ringed by sumptuous furniture and Mexican antiques to create an intimate gathering place. The combination of floor-to-ceiling glass that recedes into the walls, and the dramatic high ceilings with wood beams, make this room feel spacious and open, while the antique plaster finish on the walls and Spanish-style terra cotta tile floor create impeccable Old World charm.
Outdoor Pool Terrace: Enchanting 270-degree ocean views are embraced in the private courtyard—the show-stopping feature of this Casita. Features include a Spanish-designed fountain, heated infinity pool and spa, outdoor entertainment system, palapa bar with commercial gas grill, and several places ideal for sunbathing or enjoying a refreshing drink by the sea while watching the whales and waves. In the evening, the fire bowl in the sitting area, combined with the infinity pool, spa, and the Sea of Cortez stretching for miles, creates an enchanting fire-and-water effect that is like nothing you’ve seen before.
The Casita is adjacent to the One&Only Palmilla, rated the best resort in Mexico and consistently at the top of the Condé Nast’s Gold List. Guests enjoy access to an exclusive spa, award-winning restaurants and Jack Nicklaus 27-hole golf course. The Cuvée Travel Expert and On-site Host can assist with all of your wishes, including in-residence massages, personal chef and butler services, daily housekeeping, babysitting, and a personal driver.
